ONE OF THE MANY NATIONAL “STEPPING OUT TO CURE SCLERODERMA” WALKS WILL BE HELD ON SUNDAY JUNE 24, 2012 IN HIGHLAND PARK BEGINNING AT THE METRA TRAIN STATION PARKING LOT. The goal is to raise money to find a cure for this potentially deadly disease.

Chicago – The Greater Chicago Chapter of the Scleroderma Foundation will hold it 10th Anniversary! “Stepping Out to Cure” Scleroderma walk on Sunday, June 24th 2012 beginning at the Highland Park Downtown Metra Parking lot.

Registration will start at 7:30 AM and the walk will begin at 9 AM. The event will take place rain or shine.

“ This will be our 10th annual walk and we want everyone to come out and enjoy the family fun we have planned, as well as raise money to support our mission and serve our patients” says Carol Goldman, Walk Chair. We have a goal of 1000 walkers for our 10th walk!

Scleroderma is a chronic, often progressive, autoimmune disease in which the immune system attacks its own body.

The Disease, which literally means “hard skin” can cause thickening and tightening of the skin. In some cases is causes serious damage to internal organs including the heart, lungs, kidneys, esophagus and gastrointestinal tract. These organs may slowly harden until they become ineffective.There is still no cure for scleroderma. The disease affects three to four times as many women as men.

It is helpful if you register before the day of the walk but Walk Day registration is available. Food and refreshments along with tee shirts for all registered walkers will be available.
